The Dao is empty, yet never exhausted.

Profound—it seems the origin of all things.

It softens sharpness, untangles confusion,

harmonizes its light, and blends with the dust.

Calm and clear—it seems to exist eternally.

I do not know whose child it is,

perhaps it precedes even the Lord of Heaven.
